Planning your sightseeing

The national park and the attractions outside it are best visited on separate days or separate halves of the day. A typical pattern is to enter the park at opening time, visit a waterfall and a viewpoint, leave by early afternoon and spend the rest of the day at a winery, museum or cafe. Remember that park tickets are valid for one day.

Distances are longer than they look: Haew Narok, for example, is about 22 kilometres south of the visitor centre, which is itself well inside the park. If you only have one day, choose either the northern half of the park (Haew Suwat, viewpoints, Nong Phak Chi) or the drive south to Haew Narok.

For a ready-made plan, see the two-day Khao Yai itinerary. For more ideas, read things to do in Khao Yai and nature attractions near Khao Yai resorts.

Where to stay near the attractions

Thanarat Road and Mu Si are the most convenient bases for the park and for attractions such as the art museum, Primo Piazza and Ban Tha Chang Spring. PB Valley is west of Pak Chong in Phaya Yen. See our pool villa resort guide and best hotels in Khao Yai.
