Khao Yai is one of the easiest places in Thailand for a family holiday by car from Bangkok. The drive is manageable, the air is cooler and there are wildlife, farms and open space for children to enjoy. A family pool villa gives everyone room to spread out and a pool to splash in between outings.
What families should look for
- Bedroom count and occupancy: check the maximum number of guests, not just the number of beds. Some resorts charge for extra beds.
- Pool safety: private pools are rarely fenced. Ask about pool depth, alarms or fences if you have young children, and always supervise swimming.
- Shared facilities: a children’s pool, playground or kids’ activities make a big difference on longer stays.
- Kitchen or dining options: a pantry, in-villa dining or a restaurant with a children’s menu.
- Location: resorts on Thanarat Road keep drives short to the park and family attractions.

Family activities near the villas
- Wildlife spotting in the national park: deer, macaques and hornbills are common sights, and elephants are sometimes seen on the roads. Read the national park guide for safety rules.
- Short waterfall walks: Haew Suwat is reached by a short paved path; Haew Narok has steep stairs that may be hard for small children.
- Primo Piazza: a Tuscan-themed attraction where children can feed alpacas and sheep. See our Primo Piazza guide.
- Swimming at Ban Tha Chang Spring: a natural spring with clear water and kayaking. See the spring guide.
- Farm cafes and parks: many cafes along Thanarat Road have gardens and animals.
Practical tips for families
- Bring insect repellent, sun protection and long sleeves for the park.
- Pack warm clothes for children between November and February.
- Book child seats in advance if you are using a transfer or hire car.
- Do not feed wildlife in the park and keep children close at viewpoints, some of which have no railings.
- Plan one main outing per day; distances between attractions are longer than they look on a map.
